Quarterly sales of Apple’s notebooks have surged 30%, thanks to the newly released 12-inch MacBook, according to figures collected by TrendForce, reported 9to5Mac. The report also highlights that the year-over-year (YoY) figure has plummeted 23.4%, which shows the company is still struggling in the laptop market.
Apple’s struggle in the laptop market is also marked by its measly market share of 7.9%, with Lenovo, HP, and Dell leading the way. We believe it is Chinese manufacturers such as Lenovo that pose a threat to the company, due to their low production cost. The competition is becoming even more intense as a large number of manufacturers from China, such as Huawei, enter the market.
Huawei’s MateBook is being dubbed the MacBook killer because of its similar build and design, as well as the hardware inside. We believe its design and features and, above all, a cheaper price tag, will be able to pull Apple notebook lovers to the device.
We expect that the position of iPhone-maker in the laptop market will improve when it introduces the much-hypedMacBook Pro. The variant of its Pro series is said to lure users with a major redesign.
While it’s difficult to deny Apple’s commitment to quality in terms of the build, design and features, its expensive price range deters a large chunk of users from buying its devices. This provides rivals such as HP, Dell, Lenovo, and others to fill the vacuum by offering comparable products at much cheaper rates. Therefore, we believe things will get worse for Apple if it does not adjust the price tag, and comes up with features that have been missing out on its MacBook for years.
