Google has updated its productivity suite to improve Docs, Slides, and Sheets on Android. The focus has been on improving the way charts look on tablet and mobile. Google has also finally made the best of the iOS 9’s Split View and Slide Over feature, incorporating those features into the Docs, Sheets, and Slides apps on iOS.
Android updates
Android users can directly copy cells from the Sheets app to create formatted tables in the Docs and Slides apps. The new feature allows users to copy and paste up to 400 cells, given that all of their apps are updated to the latest versions. Google Sheets has also improved the illustration of charts, and the updates will be available with all users in a couple of days.
iOS Updates
The iOS 9’s Split View and Slide Over multitasking features now work with Google’s Drive productivity apps. Users can now view Google’s apps over other apps, or run Google’s Docs, Sheets and Slides with other apps. The features work with the iPad mini 4, iPad Pro and iPad Air 2. iOS Users who employ Google’s productivity apps can, therefore, browse the Internet or even read an article while viewing Google Docs, Slides and Sheets. Google also allows iOs users to insert page breaks and images, while other improvements and bug fixes have been made.
Google has been rolling out updates for its apps gradually over the last few months. Google Chrome began supporting Split View in October last year, while YouTube and Google Photos also support the new iOS features. Google Photos has also made headway in iOS by promoting Google Drive, with Google even suggesting that the 16GB iPhone was not enough to store iPhone users’ photos. The Google Docs iPad Pro app was previously updated to support native resolution, but multitasking features have also been added
Most users might prefer carrying out complex tasks with docs, spreadsheets and presentation slides on the computer. However, for those who want to make changes on the go, the new features are certainly useful. Users with an iPad Pro can make the best of accessories such as the Logitech CREATE Keyboard, which facilitates typing on the Apple tablet. All in all, the upgrades are fairly basic, but should improve the experience for both Android and iOS users.
