Google is all set to release an update for its Gmail app on both iOS and Android platforms. It has improvised its Inbox by adding new features in the app. Today, it announced that Inbox will be integrated with Trello, GitHub and Google Alerts on its platform. The integration will also make its way on the web platform.
Thijs van As, product manager of Gmail’s Inbox, wrote in a blog post: “ Starting today, you'll discover more integrations that make it easier to see what's happening and then act with organized Trello and GitHub project updates and Google Alerts previews. You'll also see updates based on your feedback, including Google Drive integration.”
Trello, the project management application, usually piles up emails in Inbox as it gives update on every project. Users are often annoyed when they have to check emails again and again. With the update, Inbox users will get one email summary of all their projects, which will help them get all the information in a single click. The email summary will include to-do list, changes in deadlines, notes tagged from collaborators and card movements. Similar features are now available for GitHub users as well.
Users can open the project directly from the unique link without opening their emails. They can also choose from “Open in Trello” and “Open in GitHub” to go right to their services. A summary from Trello and GitHub will always remain on top while other emails in your Inbox will remain below it.
Users will get updates about new stories in real time due to the integration of Google Alerts, which can be scanned just like a newsletter. The news alerts are customized according to the user preferences.
It seems that Google has paid attention to what some users have been demanding for a long time. These include the ability to insert Google Drive links in emails, change permission settings and save attachments directly on the Drive. The web platform is to receive one extra feature where users can drag and drop recipients on CC and BCC fields.
Currently, the messages can be marked as “done” but they cannot be deleted. The update will allow users to delete emails from Inbox without reading them. Google has said that it wants to work with more third-party applications in the future to further enhance its service. Anyone can contribute to Google here.
