This year Microsoft made two major announcements at E3 2016. One was about the Xbox One S that saw a recent limited release, and the other was about Project Scorpio scheduled to be released next year. However, 2016 belongs to Sony for one reason alone: Games. We have seen back to back releases of some incredible exclusives such as Street Fighter V, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and most recently No Man’s Sky.
When you think of No Man’s Sky, you know it’s more than just an indie video game. It’s a work of art about massive space exploration, graphics and the species you encounter in different planets. It’s 18 quintillion planets to explore and could take several lifetimes. We will have generations playing it starting off where the previous left off. Hello Games founder Sean Murray’s own future generations will be expanding it and making it even more beautiful than its now.
We’re almost half way through August and then we’ll be looking at September. If No Man’s Sky was the game everyone and their mother talked about in August, what will be the big news next month? Sony has announced the PlayStation Meeting event next month -- September 7 to be exact. It has been suggested that this will be the reveal of the PlayStation Neo that was confirmed before E3 2016. It has been in the rumor mill that the Neo will be revealed in September so this could be the event for it.
The PlayStation Neo is supposed to be the upgraded PS4 with 4K gaming and video capabilities, but not as powerful as the Xbox Project Scorpio, which is six teraflops. Scorpio is supposed to be the most powerful console ever, so we will see how it competes with the Neo. So, if that is true, we may see the Neo being launched in October, around the time of the PlayStation VR launch as well.
So it’s No Man’s Sky in September that has changed the game, and it could be the reveal of the PS Neo that could shake things up in October. The PS4, back in March 2013, was revealed in a special event as well although we didn’t see the console itself. The console was later revealed on E3 2013. The Dual Shock 4 Controller was the only thing shown in the event. Andrew House and Mark Cerny were both present to talk about the now-bestselling console of this generation.
The PS4 is 40-million-strong worldwide, and thanks to its games, has already been a huge success. No Man’s Sky is one of the most talked about games these days and its only a matter of time before we will be talking about the PS Neo.
