The latest update to Microsoft Corporation’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Microsoft Office apps brings finger-drawing support to PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. The update will enable iPhone users to use their finger to draw and write their files. As for Apple Inc.’s iPad, users can also access the update and make use of it with a stylus.
Microsoft’s plans for an update for iOS devices became evident when Apple launched its Apple Pencil some time back. The company had previously hinted at integrating pen and ink as “primary inputs” for office apps, and has now officially unveiled the update almost a year later. Even though some users may choose to stick by the iPhone-maker’s new Apple Pencil, Microsoft’s decision to give iOS users an easier alternative might help it to provide Apple Pencil with some serious competition.
The latest addition of a “draw” tab enables users to pick between a pencil, eraser, and highlighter, providing them with options regarding the color and thickness preferences for the pen.
Whilst finger scribbling may be tricky for some users, it is possible for them to opt for the option with a stylus. Considering that the company previously chose to offer doodling options to iPad and iPad Pro users, we believe that this update will help Microsoft to ramp up its number of Office app users.
Interested users can visit the iTunes App store to download the updated apps, without any additional charges. However, they must be subscribed to the Microsoft Office 356 plan to make use of its editing options.
