Google seems like it is finally ready to release the latest iterations of its Nexus devices. Multiple rumors suggest that just like each year, the company is expected to show off two new models by the end of September. Leaks show that these models are codenamed Sailfish and Marlin. According to Android Headlines, a new report has emerged about the specs of Sailfish.
Many smartphone enthusiasts might not appreciate Nexus devices for their build and design, but they have always been praised for the hardware they pack in. Sailfish’s leaked spec sheet shows that it is capable of performing as good as this year’s high-end devices, such as Samsung S7 Edge and LG G5.
Courtesy of GFXBench, this spec sheet shows that Sailfish will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820, backed by Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. The screen will offer 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, and we expect it to be QuadHD. The cameras on the devices are expected to capture sharper and refined images, with a 13MP sensor on the back and 8MP on the front. We might not witness a big battery upgrade but it may increase slightly to 2770 mAh. Moreover, increased capacity coupled with improved Doze feature is expected to make the device easily last through the day.
There are no details in this report about the build or new features. However, some other reports suggest that Sailfish will be the successor of Nexus 5X, which means that it will also be a budget device, and therefore will feature less premium build and design. It might just have the same polycarbonate rear as seen on its predecessor, but may sport the new Gorilla Glass 5 on the front, which will add to sturdiness immensely.
Features such as fingerprint scanner and USB Type-C port that were present in Nexus 5X may make their way to the new device as well. However, the biggest catch will be the latest operating system (OS), Android 7.0 Nougat. This will entice many users as some features of the OS will only be restricted to the latest iteration, somewhat like Google’s virtual reality (VR) platform, Daydream.
Google’s Nexus devices may never have ranked first in the market share, but we believe they are still preferred by many because of their top-notch specs at budget price. Moreover, the stock Android and fast updates also attracts many users. Also, with a surge in VR trend among users, we believe many would be ready to make an upgrade, as Daydream delivers premium VR experience.
