This has been a huge year for Sony and PlayStation. We saw PS4 receive some high-profile exclusives, with two of them releasing in the past few months. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End released this May and was the biggest PS4 exclusive of the year until now…perhaps.
This week sees the release of No Man’s Sky, an incredible indie title from Hello Games published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It’s the ultimate space exploration title and has like 18 quintillion planets! We’ve seen some amazing videos of the game already and looks very promising. We are indeed excited to check out the title ourselves and will post an in-depth review soon. What we think here is this could be the biggest indie hit ever on PS4, beating perhaps Rocket League. Hello Games Founder Sean Murray has put his heart and soul in this one.
Now, we are even thinking of going beyond indie here. Rocket League got a retail release much later, but No Man’s Sky doesn’t feel like an indie game. It’s been published by Sony and just developed by an indie developer but it’s huge in terms of scale. The amount of time exploring planets is incredible and can take perhaps several lifetimes. It is a bit too early to say if it’s bigger than Uncharted 4 since that would be a lot to ask from Hello Games.
Uncharted 4 is an epic cinematic adventure that is also huge in scale, thrill and adventure. It’s Nathan Drake coming out of retirement for one final adventure only to aid his brother who is presumed dead. It’s an awesome game and we loved it. However, considering the scale of No Man’s Sky, we can see it being a game-changer. Let’s see how its reviewed by critics and then we can perhaps judge whether it can come close to the epicness of Uncharted 4.
