A couple of days back, Niantic released the 0.33.0 update for Pokemon GO. Apart from some essential changes, the update included an improved version of the “Nearby” tracking system called “Sightings.” Apart from the obvious cosmetic change, players had also reported that the all-new tracker is broken. Turns out that’s not the case, as someone has figured out how the new tracker works.
The YouTube channel Trainer Tips has come up with a sure shot method of successfully tracking Pokemon with the newly improved tracker. The Youtuber explains exactly what players have to do to track and capture the targeted Pokemon in his video, which you can check out below:
For Pokemon Trainer who are in a bit of a hurry and don’t want to waste that precious Pokemon-catching time, here’s a quick summary of how the new tracker works. But keep in mind that the tall grass feature behind every Pokemon is confirmed to be just a cosmetic change.
So let’s begin. The tracker list has been slightly changed, as now, even if there are a number of same Pokemon nearby, the list will only show that specific Pokemon once. For instance, if you see an Eevee nearby, it could mean that are more than one Eevee. This change will help players track Pokemon better, as the tracker list will not be spammed by the same Pokemon.
More so, Pokemon will disappear from your list if you move too far away from them, which in the game is considered to be 200 meters. As a result, your targeted Pokemon will have a 200-meter radius around it; if you move away from it, it disappears. Understanding this will act as the first step toward successfully tracking Pokemon. Below is an image to help you better understand this.
If the Pokemon is listed in your tracker, it means you're in the Pokemon’s 200-meter circle. However, to know where exactly you stand within the circle, you have to move around a bit, but in a specific order. You first choose a direction and start walking till you reach a point where the listed Pokemon disappears from the tracker.
Mark that specific point as Point A, and walk in the complete opposite direction till you hit a point again where the Pokemon disappears. That point is your Point B.
Now that you have an idea about what the circle might look like, you walk halfway between the two points; that is, till you reach the mid-point of Point A and B.
Now you have two options: to either walk 90 degrees to the right or to the left. Let's say you chose to walk left, and while walking, the Pokemon again disappear from your tracker. Below is what you do next.
So, if the Pokemon disappears, it means you have hit the third point of the circle, which means that the Pokemon is located right behind you. Check out the image below for a closer look at how this works.
This method, if done right, guarantees that you will find that Pokemon. However, be sure to do this quickly as Pokemon in the game tends to have a spawn timer. If you reach after the timer runs out, the Pokemon will not spawn. So be quick and catch all the Pokemon you can.
