WWE 2K wrestling titles have always symbolized wrestling games and WWE’s wrestling has always been about entertainment. It has a long well-established connection to pop culture, arts and music. Back in the 1980s, WWE (then known as the WWF) would incorporate pop stars such as Cyndi Lauper, while wrestlers like Hulk Hogan would make appearances in television shows such as “The A-Team.” That was the time when the WWE was going through the “Rock n’ Wrestling Connection” era.
Times have changed and wrestling has now incorporated hip-hop, rap and modern alternative rock as well. The rap and hip-hop element is a major part of the upcoming WWE 2K17 that features Sean “P.Diddy” Combs as the man behind the soundtrack of the title.
Sean Combs talks about his involvement in the WWE 2K17 soundtrack in the video below:
This is more like the “Rap and Wrestling Connection”, with Sean Combs deciding what songs will be part of WWE 2K17’s soundtrack. Despite his connection with hip-hop and rap, the songs curated are an interesting mix of not just his genre, but rock, EDM, alternative rock, and heavy metal. The list of songs that will be buzzing in the menu screens of the game are as follows:
- Action Bronson & Joey Bada$$ (feat. Rico Love) – “What About The Rest Of Us”;
- Anderson .Paak – “Come Down”;
- Andy Black – “We Don’t Have To Dance”;
- Axwell Λ Ingrosso – “This Time”;
- Black Sabbath – “Paranoid”;
- Bring Me The Horizon – “Run”;
- FIDLAR – “Drone”;
- French Montana (feat. Kojak Black) – “Lockjaw”;
- iSHi (feat. French Montana, Wale, & Raekwon) – “We Run”;
- P. Diddy, Black Rob & Mark Curry – “Bad Boy For Life”;
- Travis Barker & Yelawolf – “Out of Control”;
- Twenty One Pilots – “Ride”;
- Yellow Claw (feat. Lil Eddie) – “We Made It”.
So, here you see an interesting mix of genres that should appeal to all kinds of music fans. For us, our favorite is “Paranoid” by Black Sabbath. Last year’s soundtrack (of WWE 2K16), we feel, was a bit better due to our affinity for old school. Skid Row’s “Youth Gone Wild,” and Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell” were two awesome tracks from last year’s title. It seemed inspired to fit the “Raise Some Hell” theme of the game that featured Stone Cold Steve Austin on the cover. Call him Sean "P.Diddy" or "Puffy" Combs, he's an icon of today's music industry and an incredible musician and producer, so it makes sense for him to take charge of the soundtrack. He also made an appearance this week on WWE's Monday Night Raw.
This year, Brock Lesnar known as “The Beast Incarnate” takes the cover of WWE 2K17 and it’s all about taking a ride to Suplex City, with former WWE and WCW superstar Goldberg as the preorder bonus. Let us know if you like the song selections this year and if they were better or worse than last year in the comments below!
