Two decades ago, Duke Nukem 3D was unleashed on PC by 3D Realms and GT Interactive. This wisecracking hero with an attitude wanted to waste aliens only way he knew how to. Loaded with some incredible one-liners, this was the shooter of the 90s. It laid the foundations for first-person shooters that we love today such as the Call of Duty and Battlefield series.
If you’ve been missing Duke Nukem and his funny one-liners, we’ve got some good news for you; the game is coming back with a loud bang. At the PAX West panel, Gearbox Software announced the Duke Nukem 3D 20th Anniversary Edition World Tour. It’s pretty amazing because it will appeal to the older fans and introduce the classic to a new generation of gamers.
This awesome package is set to release on October 11, 2016. To entice old fans and new gamers, Gearbox Software has released a neat title teaser, which is surely going to get you excited.
The 20th anniversary edition will provide gamers an option to either play the game with the original graphics (just the way it was 20 years ago) or with updated visuals and increased frame rate courtesy of “True3D Rendering.” The game will also include a new episode – created by the original team – that has eight levels. Some would say eight levels is not enough to kick some serious alien-butt, however, that’s all we’re getting for now.
Moreover, the game will also have new music from the original sound designer, Lee Jackson, and most importantly, those amazing one-liners by American voice actor, Jon St. John. Another great inclusion is the developer in-game commentary, as it will give some insight to the original classic from the team that made it happen two decades ago.
Gearbox Software President Randy Pitchfork said in a press release: ““When I first moved out to Texas to join the Duke Nukem 3D development team in the mid-nineties, I could not possibly predict that we were all going to be part of the emergence of the 3D First Person videogame genre that would ultimately impact the entire videogame industry. Making it possible for Allen, Richard, Lee and Jon to all come back together 20 years later to bring a whole new episode to the classic game is just one of those rare and incredible things that I hope will bring joy and happiness to hardcore videogame fans new and old.”
For all you die-hard old fans, the wait is almost over (just a little over a month to go). It’ll also be a pleasant experience for those gamers who love first-person shooters and didn’t get the chance to play the game 20 years ago. Either way, we’ll be getting our duke on soon.
