PCs may no longer be valued at workplaces, but the gaming world still has a great demand for them.Lenovo, exploiting the market, has unveiled two new desktops, IdeaCentre Y710 Cube and the IdeaCentre AIO Y910. They are not your typical, massive rectangle-boxes, which use up a good chunk of space; they bear a minimal form factor and design which rightly complements what they are made for: gaming.
IdeaCentre Y710 Cube is only a processing unit with a compact body and a nice handle on top, which makes it extremely easy to carry anywhere. Basically, it is a full-blown computer, which does not restrict a user to one gaming station. As the name suggests, the unit is cube-shaped. The surface design seems to be borrowed from a device manufactured by Alienware—the PC manufacturer renowned for its expertise in the gaming industry.
Since it’s made for gaming, it is meant to pack in cutting-edge specs—and it does. Also, the hardware which powers this machine does not only make it better for conventional gaming, it gives IdeaCentre Y710 Cube the capability to run virtual-reality titles, stream high-end games in real time, as well as easily handle 4K-supporting titles.
Powering this unit is the Intel’s sixth-gen i7 Chipset, which is backed by 32GB of RAM, NVidia’s GeForce GTX 1080 graphics, and 2TB hard drive or the256 GB solid-state drive. One feature which console lovers will appreciate is the already packed wireless receiver for Xbox One controllers, which can connect up to eight remotes simultaneously. To amplify the gaming experience, users have the option to get KillerDouble Shot Pro Wi-Fi to reduce online game lag, Dolby Digital’s audio, and the YSeries Gaming Mouse and Keyboards.
Moreover, the unit runs Windows 10, which in addition to the new features such as Cortana, offers added features like streaming games from an Xbox One. The entry-level price of the VR-Ready Y710 Cube is $1,299 which we believe is reasonable considering the portability and other features it offers.
IdeaCentre AIO Y910 is for users who don’t want to get stuck with cables or the hassle of purchasing a nice monitor for their gaming PC. All the high-end gaming components required for gaming are packed at the back side of a 27” Quad HD screen. The borderless display of this screen maximizes field of view for the user and makes the whole gaming experience much more immersive.
IdeaCentre Y910, other than its attractive and ultra-thin display, packs the same chipset which is found in the Cube model, with the same capacity of RAM, Hard Drive, and graphics card. There are also 5W Twin stereo speakers by Harman Kardon, which we believe will not require users to go for any other source of audio. Also, the components of the device can be easily accessed, as the panel on the back of the monitor can be detached.
This variant of IdeaCentre is also VR-ready, and not only caters to gaming needs but, as the company claims, can perfectly satisfy other entertainment needs, like watching movies. Windows 10, which comes pre-installed on this variant as well, certainly adds more tricks up its sleeve, and gives users more features to fiddle with. The VR-ready iteration of AIO Y910 starts with $1,799, which is evidently higher than the Cube Y710, but it does save you extra costs and hassle of buying a monitor.
There are a number of alternatives in the market when it comes to gaming, from consoles to high-end laptops. However, a good number of gamers still prefer PCs over any other device. Lenovo’s latestseries not only provides such gamers a device with commendable specs, but also offers portability while retaining the PC experience, which cannot be replaced with other devices.
