No Man’s Sky is all about space travel, exploring new planets, and venturing deeper into the farthest reaches of the galaxy. Most players are eager to get their ship up and running and zoom off into space, which is understandable. Players, however, need to realize that their starting planet is ripe with all resources needed to advance in the game.
We will talk about the starting planet on one of our profiles we named Sanctuary and discuss how the average player can make the most of their starting planet, in terms of resources and upgrades. We have multiple people playing No Man’s Sky on different profiles — to get an idea of how different or similar the experience is for each player.
Players cannot escape the mining aspect of the game, regardless of their gameplay preferences. Mining will be necessary at every point in the game, whether you are looking for a certain ingredient to upgrade or just a few extra units. Almost every planet in the game has some form of carbon and iron — the two basic elements in the game. Plutonium is also available that is required to fuel Launch Thrusters in Starships..
Keeping all this in mind, unless you just want to get to the ending as soon as possible or gather the Atlas stones without much grinding we suggest you take your time with the game. Try and explore what you know and immerse yourself in every rock on your home planet. We even gave it a name – not only so that perhaps we could one day return or for other players to discover – but mainly to remember. Sanctuary is where this particular journey began and if you don’t mind some radiation it’s a great place to call home.
Not only can you grind up to become a multimillionaire you can also max out your Exo-Suit inventory, buy a brand new ship, learn new recipes, and craft a lot of upgrades for your Starship and Multi-Tool. All this can be achieved without ever leaving your starter planet. And if you have been playing No Man’s Sky for even an hour you would find truth in this. We leave our planet in search of new places and better gear but the grinding never changes.
Many are put off by some of the features (or lack thereof) in No Man’s Sky. But we believe it is an excellent experience to lose yourself into. If it gets too boring, players can simply jump on their ships and fly off to any new distant planet, or a new star system. It is not for everyone but many may prefer to play the game in short bursts, perhaps a few hours each day, slowly making progress in one area or the other.
