No Man’s Sky launched on PC this past weekend, and was riddled with bugs. These are not the procedurally generated “bugs” that you find on the game’s various planets, but some genuine issues which could harm the game’s success on PC. Let’s discuss what Hello Games is doing to fix these issues, and how despite these bugs, No Man’s Sky is the top game of the year on Steam.
According to statistics on Steam, No Man’s Sky reached a peak of 212,620 concurrent players, making it the PC gaming platform’s biggest launch this year. This milestone puts No Man’s Sky above games such as XCOM 2, Dark Souls 3, Stellaris, and Stardew Valley in terms of peak users. However, at the time of writing, the game has dropped out of the top ten, and currently stands at 56,147 users. This is likely to fluctuate according to time of day and week, and will hopefully rise as the months roll on.
We believe this success may have more to do with the game’s hype and unclear marketing, in addition to the merits of the experience itself. Many players were hooked from day one, and just had to buy the game to experience it for themselves. While some are absolutely in love with this game, it has recently become clear that No Man’s Sky is not a game for everybody.
Indie developer Hello Games has a lot of work to do in order to address all the complaints and issues in the PC port of their overly ambitious game. These issues range from simple glitches such as drops in frame-rates, to more serious game-breaking scenarios such as the game freezing or crashing. Lucky for players, Sean Murray mentioned that the team is “tracking several issues” and “working hard to resolve them as quickly as possible.”
The support page on No Man’s Sky website has been updated with solutions to some common issues plaguing players. Secondly, all the players who have mailed Hello Games have been given tickets so they can be dealt with in a quick and fair manner. In addition, Hello Games has updated the auto response that will automatically try to suggest a fix to the complaint.
It is good to know the small team at Hello Games is not ignoring the fans, and we hope solutions to all the problems are found soon, including the big fixes as well as individual complaints. If you have any issues with your PC version of the game, email support@hellogames.co.uk and hopefully someone will get back to you.
