A hint from the South Korean tech giant, Samsung, suggests its plan to introduce its latest smartwatch. The upcoming smartwatch, Gear S3, is likely to be launched at a press conference event on August 31, before the annual IFA trade show kicks off.
In the invitations that have been sent to the international press, the company has printed a clock dial with text that reads: "Talk About 3.” The teaser has caused a buzz in the tech space and users all over the globe about Samsung’s upcoming smartwatch.
The company launched Gear S2 in September last year, at the IFA trade show, which adds to the probability of August 31 bringing some good news to all those eagerly anticipating Gear S3. Tech experts believe that Samsung’s upcoming smartwatch will have a design similar to its predecessor.
As per rumors making rounds in the tech space, the company plans to unveil three variants of Gear S3 namely Classic, Frontier, and Explorer. Some reports indicate that Gear S3’s Explorer variant will have three buttons placed on the three, four, and ten-hour mark. We believe these buttons will help users launch various apps.
The smartwatch industry had witnessed a slowdown in global sales of late. A 32% decline in sales was reported during the second quarter. However, Samsung was among one of the market players that actually saw an increase in their sales numbers.
Samsung has made persistent efforts to improve its offering, as it vies for a larger market share in the smartwatch industry. The company recently launched a major update for its Gear S2; the update allows users to directly download apps on their smartwatch. To be more specific, users no longer have to connect their smartwatch to their smartphone in order to download apps. The company has also made it easier for users to send and receive messages and calls, by adding the “contact” feature as a widget.
Some reports indicate that the Gear S3 will have a round-face and include a barometer, an altimeter, a speedometer, and GPS capability. The reports also suggest that the Gear S3 will run on the company’s own Tizen operating system (OS). However, the South Korean tech giant is yet to confirm these reports. The company is reportedly testing Samsung Pay on Gear S2. So, it is highly like that the upcoming smartwatch will have this feature.
If Samsung unveils Gear S3 by the end of this month, it would allow it to have a small lead on Apple that might launch “Apple Watch 2” in the following week.
