Square Enix seems quite busy with the World of Final Fantasy. The company recently introduced eight mirages and has now come up with another four: Mimic Queen, Mist Dragon, Minotaur, and Sea Snake.
Many of you might not have seen these mirages before in any Final Fantasy game as they debuted in Final Fantasy XII, a game that does not seem to be linked with the franchise in any way. In Final Fantasy XII, players encountered the boss Mimic Queen in the Barheim Passage. She was one real tough monster to beat. However, in World of Final Fantasy, she is on the good side and inflicts dark elemental damage to foes. She can also take the shape of a treasure chest, something fans of the series are well aware of.
Mist Dragon is an iconic mirage that was first seen in Final Fantasy IV. Two characters of the mainstream game, Cecil Harvey and Kain Highwind were entrusted to make their way to the Village of Mist and deliver a Bomb Ring. To complete the mission, they had to go through Mist Cave and slay the Mist Dragon. This particular mirage can heal and also damage enemies, which makes it a suitable companion to take along.
Sea Snake is not that popular compared to other mirages in the franchise. It is still known by people who played the first two Final Fantasy games. Since it is a sea snake, it deals with water elemental attacks and is weak against electric attacks. It would be great to see this mirage evolve into Leviathan after meeting certain parameters.
The two most iconic Minotaurs are found in Final Fantasy VIII, where Squall and the party go to a place called Tomb of the Unknown King to uncover a mystery. Although this quest was optional and didn’t affect the storyline in any way, after completing it players are granted with a summon called “Brothers,” which is actually two Minotaurs. In World of Final Fantasy, Minotaur is a heavy hitter capable of good attack stats. It’s a melee attacker so it’s not capable of any ranged attacks, such as magic spells.
We would love to see more mirages in the future. However, what we really want to see is the evolution process of certain mirages and what players get if they evolve them. World of Final Fantasy is like a Pokemon game, but for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita only.
